Goals and Expectations

Workshop goals

The following goals were defined during the preparation phase and presented at the beginning of the workshop:

  1. "We want to show" What is the Helmholtz KG and how does it work?
  2. "Improve the understanding of the" Relation of HKG and its data sources
  3. "Start" Shaping the next steps of the HKG with you "with developing the HKG data model and get feedback on the data provider onboarding process" Overall, participants’ expectations were well aligned with the workshop goals and the planned content.

What happened?

The following agenda was followed during the workshop:

DurationContent
10 minWelcome, icebreaker, introduction, and workshop goals
15 minOverview of the Helmholtz Knowledge Graph: strategy and infrastructure
35 minInteractive session: collaborative extension of the HKG data model
20 minInteractive session: feedback on data provider onboarding workflow

Participants & Perspectives

Participants of the workshop covered the full research data lifecycle, with a clear focus on the infrastructural stages of plan, preserve, share, and reuse. While experience with Knowledge Graphs varied widely, participants showed a consistently high level of involvement in research data infrastructures overall (average ~0.75 on a scale from 0 to 1).

What expectations did participants bring to the WS?

Motivations and expectations to join the workshop ranged from practical goals — such as data integration, discoverability, and onboarding — to broader interests in interoperability, understanding the Helmholtz KG, and exploring the value of knowledge graphs in general.
